But I’m A Cheerleader follows a teenaged girl named Megan who is in her mind the perfect American girl. She has a football player boyfriend, she gets good grades, she goes to church, for gods sake she's a cheerleader! This preception is shattered when her family and friends confront her about how she may be a lesbian. They decide to send her away to conversion therapy in hopes that she will begin to walk the straight path.
