Movie/tv brain rot

When it comes to movies I mostly focus on 80s/90s horror but I still like a lot of other stuff so this page is now for EVERYTHING movie/tv related but it just has a horror theme

8/4 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Currently unrated I just wanted to talk

After watching and really enjoying FMA2003 I am finally getting to watching the supposedly “superior” version of the series. So far I am only 8 episodes in and still suffering through the “it gets better” phase. Everyone says it gets better but I'm honestly not impressed by what I have seen so far. I do not think the art direction is as good as the original series, especially for being created several years later with a much larger budget. I do think they both have a similar quality of animation but 03 just has its moments where it SHINES. Brotherhood's pacing has also been questionable so far. It's actually what kept me from watching the series back when it was first airing. The first episode is an anime exclusive episode and its so confusing and does a horrible job of introducing characters and the world they live in. Jumping nearly immediately into a fight scene for nearly the whole 20 minute run of the episode is not engaging whatsoever and is instead just confusing. Afterward it does get better. I just wish they had given it more time. They introduce characters too quickly and dont give enough time to flesh them out as people. Whole several episode arcs get condensed into one episode. Yet people claim that its a “more accurate version” of the manga anyway despite the manga giving much more development to the characters. Especially A; I feel a lot less connected to and so far Ed and Al’s relationship feels a lot more flat. I feel like they acted more like siblings in the source material and the 03 anime. More than anything so far it just feels rushed. I will definitely be re reviewing within the coming weeks but I just had to get out my thoughts about my current progress.

7/29 My Own Private Idaho (1991)

2.5/5 stars

This movie is up for rereview once I can rewatch it with subtitles!!! This movie was a disgustingly sad reflection on privilege. Mikey is a character you want to root for, that you want to see him get better and just watching the world repeatedly beat him down is painful. He never did anything wrong except be born under unfortunate circumstances. For him the streets are not a choice but a necessity to survive, even so despite everything he's open and vulnerable. In direct contrast to Scott who is so repressed that he plays the street life like a game. To him this lifestyle is just an interesting thing to pass the time and get a rise out of his father. When Mike confesses to him Scott is so far within himself he doesn’t even believe that men can love each other. Believing he only ever had sex with men for money he doesn’t even need. Scott goes back home to live a relitivlity normal heteronormative life with his wealth wile Mike is left to die on the roads of Idhao he started at, with no one left to love him. In a way they both end back where they started
